KAP Beginnings

Achievement in every field of human endeavor.

Greetings Brothers and FriendsKappa Alpha Psi: Coat of Arms
of Newark Alumni Chapter:

I hope this letter finds you in good health and even better spirits. I know this fraternal year, the Newark Alumni Chapter will continue to achieve the level of excellence needed to make it one of the premier Chapters in the Northeastern Province of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated.

I personally would like to congratulate all of our newly elected officers and appointed committee Chairman. It is truly an honor to be serving with you.

I want to thank our Immediate Past Polemarch George Stanley for his outstanding service and dedication to the principles of Kappa Alpha Psi. He demonstrated the true meaning of what it means to be a “Kappa Man”.

As you peruse our website, I wanted to let you know that we are an organization of executives who volunteer their time and resources to enhance the lives of youth, families, and the community of Newark, NJ. Our organization focuses on five areas of service, which include mentoring, education, health & wellness, economic and leadership development. Our signature Social Action and Guide Right programs allow us to provide a meaningful impact on the Newark, NJ Community.

Some of Our Successes…

Through our Foundation, we have provided assistance in housing, education, health and employment training to improve the local community quality of life. Our annual Wilcox Brandon Scholarship provides a student with a financial gift to assist them in their quest to achieve their academic endeavors. We were there to assist with victims of Hurricane Katrina. We provided clothing and financial assistance to families that had to relocate to the City of Newark area. We also recently completed the first successful year of our new program, Brick City Kappa Language Literacy Leadership Program, which helped to increase and improve the speaking, reading, and writing of those where English was not their first language. This program also provided education on financial literacy. We have also recently launched a partnership with New Jersey Cares and are currently mentoring in a program with at risk youth in a project called, “Stepping Stones”. Through our annual “Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship Event” we have raised money for scholarships. We also continue our efforts in support of community outreach and efforts in feeding the homeless.

We invite you to contact us and make a commitment to a “call to service”. By getting involved and staying connected, you will be promoting the success of our programs that serve the Newark, NJ and greater Essex County community. Show your friends, neighbors and colleagues your commitment to our communities and our purpose.

As we prepare to embark on the 2008 – 2009 fraternal year, I want to provide with a gentle reminder of Grand Polemarch Dwayne Murray’s theme this fraternal year, “Creating Inspiration: A Call to Service”. We are establishing a committed agenda that our members and friends can use to evaluate our commitment to “Creating Inspiration: A Call to Service”. Specifically, we intend to do the following:

  • Utilize the various technological methods of communication to keep our financial membership connected and informed as well as seek to inspire non financial members to “Kome Home to Kappa”
  • Focus on the continuous improvements and effectiveness of the chapter’s projects, events, and programs
  • Improve on effective communication with the alumni and collegiate brothers
  • Increase the participation of brothers on the Provincial and National level
  • Increase the level of chapter participation with the Guide Right program
  • Increase the level of chapter participation with the Social Action program

I look forward to working with each brother and our friends of Kappa as we strive for excellence and move to “Answering the Call to Service” and “Living the Inspiration”.

Sincerely,

Theodore R. Sanchious, III
